It’s funny how we sometimes forget that not everyone knows the same things that we do. I was talking to my brother this morning about some books we had both read recently. During the course of our conversation, I mentioned downloading some Kindle books and how much I dislike waiting for books to arrive in the mail.
Yes, I’m like a little kid when it comes to getting something I want. My brother said he’d love to check out some Kindle books but that he wasn’t in any position right now to purchase a Kindle. When I told him that I don’t own one either, he looked at me like I had lost my mind. That’s when I had my “duh” moment and realized that for all of Amazon’s promotional capability, there is one thing that they have done a pretty poor job of publicizing. You can read Kindle books without a Kindle!
If you would like to experience the world of Kindle without going out and buying a new ereader, you have a couple of options. First off, if you have a smart phone, just go to your app store and do a search for Kindle. They have a free app just sitting there. If you don’t have a smart phone, no problem! You can also download free versions of the Kindle for PC or Mac. Any of these three options will allow you to purchase and read anything that’s available out there for Kindle. I use the Kindle for Android and the Kindle for PC. Both work fine. You just install them for free on your phone or computer and then, after making a purchase on Amazon, click a button that tells Amazon where to send the book you just purchased. It isn’t just about convenience by the way. The Kindle books generally cost at least a few dollars less than the hard copies. Add in the savings on shipping and you can save enough money to get a second book!
